CMMS Used in Production
Your production plant specializes in food goods and you are the third-shift Production Manager. This means that it is your responsibility to manually monitor both the functionality of each piece of equipment on the floor between 11PM and 7AM as well as inspecting products as they are created during your shift. You make your rounds about every half hour or forty five minutes, listening to the sounds of the machines, watching to see that they are working properly and individually inspecting pieces of product at each station to ensure that they are good specimens to turn over to the Quality Control manager for a final inspection before boxing and shipment to your customers.
As you make your notes based on your inspections around the shop floor, you can get some idea of the conditions of each machine and the productivity levels of the plant in general. But, with all the criteria that plays into profitability in a production setting, how do you use the information you have just acquired to get a detailed perspective of the plant? Your CMMS System is the key to your reporting and management needs and your plant?s profitability.
A CMMS System, Computerized Maintenance Management System, is equipped to run interval summaries along with more detailed reports detailing the specific status and criteria of each and every aspect of the production process. By keeping close tabs on the details in these reports, the production manager is able to get a solid perspective of the condition of the plant, the quality of the products being made and can make an educated assessment as to necessary changes or alterations that may be needed.
Employing a CMMS software system is not only a time-saving tool for production, but also a vital requirement for liability protection In the case of a problem with a product or if the plant is being audited for production, the CMMS System provides an ongoing track of the plants performance and an affirmation that all safety procedures were followed as required.
